Since I first started engaging in conversations and debates about gun control, I have always maintained "it's a sport" when asked "why do you even need a handgun?" As an adult now, I realized that my understanding of that aspect of the debate came from the fact that I grew up in a household where sport shooting and hunting were consider sports just as much as hockey and curling. In "Those who want total ban on handguns lack understanding of firearm sports," James Melnick explains the "need" for firearms in sport shooting competitions but also highlights that the idea that no one "needs" a gun is extremely narrow minded.
