Following a triple shooting at the Windsor Hotel in downtown Winnipeg, MB, City Councillor Sherri Rollins wrote an open letter to media outlets. She called on the Trudeau Government to fulfill their campaign promise of empowering municipalities to ban handguns.
In a press conference regarding the incident, reporters asked Const. Rob Carver of the Winnipeg Police how a handgun ban would impact violent crime in their city. Carver, with complete honesty, said the "Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police have indicated that it won't make any difference whatsoever. When we seize handguns, the handguns are always, almost 100 per cent, in the possession of people who have no legal right to possess them. They're almost always stolen or illegally obtained."
Perhaps one of his most poignant statements from the press conference is "I guess it might make some people feel good, but it will not change the threat level one iota."
Even though Const. Carver is giving blunt answers to questions regarding handgun bans, the same principles apply to the recently announced ban on so called "military-style assault rifles." This ban will not make any difference whatsoever. It might make Trudeau feel good, thinking he's protecting Canadians after one of the most heinous crimes in Canadian history, "but it will not change the threat level one iota." To hear Const. Rob Carver talk more about the ineffectiveness of handgun bans from a police perspective, click here:
